Who was Birgit Nilsson? What made her so unique? The story begins in her parental home, via her years of study in Stockholm and on to her career as Opera diva La Nilsson on the stages of the world. With private mementos, recordings and pictures, the exhibit shows glimpses from Birgit's life. Some shared by Birgit herself, but also as told by others through the years. In the annivarsary year of 2019, the theme of the exhibition is Birgit Nilsson and MET, offering our visitors new discoveries and insights. With the exhibition Birgit Nilsson - moments and tones comes a unique audio guide (in English, Swedish or German). It gives an in-depth experience of the exhibit with stories about what is shown in the cabinets and anecdotes about Birgit Nilsson; the childhood, the opera world, her love for her husband Bertil, and much more. With the audio guide, you can also listen to some of the most well-known arias and music. You receive your own set of headphones, so that you yourself easily can choose what story to listen to, when and for how long. As the story unfolds, you are welcome to take a seat on one of the chairs while admiring the dresses, memorabilia, and photos. Adjacent to the exhibition hall is the cinema, where the film is shown continuously. Here is also a media room with the possibility for visitors to learn more by exploring our Intranet or by looking through maps filled with facts about La Nilsson, books, and other printed items. Join us on a trip through Birgit's fantastic opera career!

Music stops

Apart from the many stops with audio commentary, the exhibit includes music stops of varying length and origin. They allow the visitor to listen to Birgit Nilsson - and to some of her contemporaries - perform a selection of the most well-known arias and songs.
